Training and Support at Differences Not Disabilities

At Differences Not Disabilities, we believe that high-quality, practical support should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we offer a blend of structured training courses, community outreach, and free resources to support parents, schools, organisations, and businesses.

Free Resources and Support

We know that not everyone can commit to formal training — and that’s okay. You’ll often find us at local markets and community events across Kent, where we offer free, friendly advice on autism, behaviour, and inclusion. These events are designed to be relaxed, supportive, and non-judgemental — just drop by for a chat, ask questions, or browse our resources.

We also share free informative videos online covering key topics like:

  • Understanding the function of behaviour
  • Supporting regulation and emotional needs
  • Creating inclusive environments
  • Communicating with non-speaking individuals
  • Common myths (e.g. “Do vaccines cause autism?”)

You can find these videos on our website and social media platforms.

For Schools and Organisations

This is our flagship course

 It covers:

  • Preventing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
  • Inclusive classroom practices
  • Risk assessment and reasonable adjustments
  • Physical intervention (only when necessary and as a last resort)

We also include a Training Needs Assessment to ensure this course meets both population-wide and individual-specific risks, especially in high-need settings.

Our Training Courses

We offer three structured training courses, each tailored to meet the specific needs of different audiences. All our content is informed by evidence-based practice, lived experience, and a neurodiversity-affirming approach.

For Parents

Practical, supportive training focused on:

  • Understanding and responding to behaviour
  • Building regulation and communication
  • Strengthening relationships at home
This course is designed with flexibility in mind, helping families apply strategies that fit their unique situations.

For Businesses

  • Understanding autism and neurodiversity in the workplace
  • Improving customer service for all needs
  • Creating sensory-friendly and accessible environments

Google Review

My 8 year old daughter was struggling in school she was unable to focus and would often leave the classroom to avoid conflict and was often sent home as the staff could not keep her in class. I mentioned this in passing to Kurt hoping to get some ideas for helping her to stay in class. What I instead found was Kurt was able to give me information advise and access to the laws and guidelines on sending children home. As they say, knowledge is power and I was able to use everything Kurt sent me to instead hold the school accountable for not meeting my child's needs. We were close to her being expelled but now we have many agencies involved in making sure my child gets an education and the school are now working with me to achieve this rather than against me labelling her as a naughty child and pushing her out. I am so glad I approached Kurt as without that conversation I would not have known my rights and I'm positive I would be home schooling right now.

Thankyou

My son and daughter have Sen and I came here today and I feel so at ease, reassured and someone to understand as a parent what it’s like as a parent with special needs children. I will be coming again to a coffee morning. Thank you for understanding me and my children!

Thankyou
